My family and I are planning a cross-country trip from Portland, Oregon to Boston, Mass. My 5year old son is a great fan of trains and steam locomotives. Are there any excursions or museums I should try to visit along the way? Thanks teddymail@sysmatrix.net

Golden Spike National Historic Site outside of Ogden, Utah. It's some distance off the beaten path, though.

At Havre, MT you will have a service stop. (at least 15 minutes, but more like 30 minutes)
There is a huge Great Northern Steam engine there.
