I'm going to be visiting the Fresno area next week, and I was hoping to get a chance to watch a few trains out there.

I saw that the SJVR has some operations out there. Does it do any interchanging with any other roads?

I was kind of interested in the yard operations. Does any one have any favorite spots to watch some yard ops?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

The SJVR interchanges with the BNSF and the UP in Fresno. They also run the old Fresno Electric that runs out by the Fresno Air Ternimal. There are several industries that still use rail in that area. I think they still go out that line in the early afternoon.

There are normally two to three SJVR units that sit at the UP yard north of down town in the evening.

Another go spot to see lots of trains along with the SJVR is at the diamond located next to the BNSF intermodal yard south of Fresno. Off of south bound highway 99 take the south ceader ave off ramp, go back over the freeway and head east. Follow all the trucks and you can miss the diamond. There is a little parking under the old highway bridge but be very careful of all the truck traffic.

Another place to see the SJVR is at there base in Exiter, Ca. Take south 99 and look for the Exiter exit. Follow the sighs to Exiter and there offices are on the north end of town. Exiter is a small town so you will not have any problem finding them. Exiter is east of Visiala on Hwy 198 about 50 miles or so south of Fresno.

Enjoy,

Shannon
