San Diego - Freight Trains Set To Roll Through Carrizo Gorge:
A historic set of tracks stretching through the far East County has been idle for decades. But, after months of digging out tunnels and rebuilding trestles in the Carrizo Gorge, the "Impossible Railroad" is set to reopen. Starting in the first quarter of 2004, the Carrizo Gorge Railway plans to reopen the rails to freight service.

Amazing. I hope they have deep pockets to keep the maintenance going. That line keeps getting thrashed by violent weather.

Maybe, we hope. Saw an article recently in the rail news that there were some objections by environmentalists. Was going to give the reference, but I can not find it again. Seems that there is some animal that they are afraid will get hit by a train. What can I say? It's a logic free zone. Do they think if the traffic does not move by rail it does not exist?
