My dad remembered when he was a kid, about a frieght car derailing near the Garrett yard.It was a beer car, dearing that time, even though my grandfather was an Enginer for the B&O,money was still tight.Any way,The kids went out too clean up the mess(bottles, kegs.)Needless to say, they just didn't clean up.It was his first hangover. When they came back, some what under the influence, to the freight depot.Needless to say my Grandfather was not impressed. The B&O still paid them for the clean up

Interesting story.

Reminded me of one I saw in a railfan magazine: Years ago (1950s) a boxcar was involved in a derailment in the desert of southern Calif, on SP-owned San Diego & Arizona Eastern. The car fell down a ravine and was left there; too expensive to retrieve it.

Boxcar contained cases of beer, so thirsty railfans consumed it over time. It was several miles from the nearest highway, so they must have really worked up a thirst by the time they got there.
