Check this out: recently a grade crossing collision occurred in Illinois. A stop-and-proceed order was erroneously cancelled before the appropriate repairs were done. See the article at http://www.suntimes.com:80/output/news/train12.html

Just read the article from SunTimes. Kind of rare for that to happen to this particular rr since it has been good on keeping up on their roads. I don't blame the people that got hurt for them to sue the rr.

I would not blame them either. A similar accident occurred in the San Diego area a couple of years ago, but for a different reason. It happened on the light rail line. The grade crossing signals were pre-programmed to operate after a train had arrived at a nearby station. In one case, an operator on a training run did not stop at the station in question, since he was not picking up passengers. The train proceeded across the nearby grade crossing and struck a vehicle. The driver was killed and the passenger was injured.
