Does anyone know from which manufacturer railroads like the Monon and C&EI acquired bug deflectors that it mounted over the top headlight of their F diesel units? Or did they make their own? They were nearly 2 ft. long and prevented those small flying creatures from splattering on the front windshields. Monon's F3A #84A in the photo on Monon Society's home page of the website ( www.monon.com ) had one mounted. You may see it in a larger, more detailed picture in its "Photograph" webpage section. The Monon had these deflectors on its F3 units as early as on the Chicago-Indianapolis passenger trains in 1959.

I once showed a b&w photo of an F3 unit heading a passenger train and having a deflector mounted to a friend in the narly '60s. He said that there was something wrong with my camera and a reflection appeared on the photo. When I found out about the deflector, I told him about it. Best wishes, Den
