A new movie has been added to the Other Archive on the Oaks Model Railroad website http://www.trainweb.org/oaksmodelrr. The Harrisburg Line was getting a visit from the Loram rail grinder on August 22, 1998. I believe the motive power for this unit is derived from a GP38-2, but you wouldn't recognize it except for the trucks.

This movie is being offered in the MPG format and the Divx ;-) format. The Divx ;-) codec, available at http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index.html#codecs , is the MP3 for video and, from what I have read about it, will soon become the standard on the net. Project Mayo http://www.projectmayo.com/ has just released the new and improved beta version of OpenDivx, its successor.

WARNING: Microsoft Windows Media Player, versions 7.0 and newer, seem to have problems with Divx ;-) (an effort by MS to kill a very good codec that they can not control?), but works fine with 6.4, my personal preference. If you are trying to use 7.0+ (my condolences as I have had nothing but problems with it) you can download 6.4 from Microsoft and run both on the same machine as I do http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/win32ie4x86.asp.

Download both versions and compare the quality of the two. Considering that the Divx ;-) version is more than 20% smaller and, due to space limitations, I have had to start removing older movies to make room for new ones, I am leaning toward putting only Divx ;-) movies on the site from now on.

Let me know what you think.
