I am a die-hard railfan and have recently been to Sykesville, MD Gate House Museum. I was very surprised to see a boyscout project that cleaned up a portion of the "Dinky Railroad", (A railroad that existed in 1970's since abandoned, 3-mile spur off of the CSX Old Mainline). I am very interested in information pertaining to the start of a Tourist Railroad on this line. The Town of Sykesville is very hyped up on its railroad history, I think it is worth persuing since the railroad had such an active role in the community. The good thing it that the property belongs to the State of MD and still has original track in place. The bad is that the ties are all rotted clear through. Any information on starting a tourist railroad? How does one go about it?
