Hello my name is Gerry and one of my hobbies is to photograph track switches. I am primarily interested in the east coast area around new york,pa.n.j. and delaware. I would like to find some good spots where I can photograph 75 to 90 degree switches. The greater the degree the better. I take photo's for my photo album, unfortunitly there are very few oppurtunities where I live in n.J. Thanks for the help.

Hi Gerry, Although you are probably a legitimate railroad photographer, as many of us are, we all have to be cautious with our requests in our post-Sept. 11th world. Some people who read your statement may question it's credibility, so I thought you should be fore-warned that this post may be looked at with suspicion. As a new member to this forum, you should be advised that we try to avoid posting topics like this to help keep our discussion of railroads open and enjoyable for anyone who wants to read and/or discuss them. There have been several postings in the past few months that have been looked at with suspicion, so we're all a little more alert now. I hope you understand our hesitation, and that you will get involved in some of the other discussions on this board! Thanks.

Ignore Eric, he's naturally paranoid I think. Besides, I thought that there were several areas in N.J. to get good pics of the things you're looking for. Never having been there myself, this is purely from a love of reading, and hear-say, so don't take my statements as complete fact, please.

Cthetrains: Don't be so quick to dismiss Eric's concern as paranoia.
In recent months, the topic of security has been covered pretty extensively in other postings, so I won't repeat what I've already written elsewhere.
But I agree with Eric, as do many others who contribute to this board. Do a search for "rjmamula" if you're not sure what we're talking about.

Yes you folks are a little over paranoid. I am well aware of the discussions that have proceeded as I scanned the forum looking for some incite into my endeavor. If I were a terrorist, would I be annoucing my intensions for the whole world to see. My step father was an engineer and my mother commuted on the north jersey coast line for years. I have been searching the web looking for pics and information on the best sites to photograph track especially swithces, thats my hobbie. Some people like trains, some like engines and I like track whats the big deal.

First of all, I'm not paranoid. If I were, I would have called up the FBI instead of taking the time to type up my reply. In fact, I would probably be too afraid to register on this forum, knowing that there are ways for people to find out my personal information. I was just stating a fact. There's nothing wrong with being cautious. I typed it because I've seen the messages that have been on this board lately, and knew how other people would respond, so I figured I'd do it in a polite and informative way.
Gerry, It's nothing personal! There are some who would pin you as a terrorist right away- THEY are the paranoid ones. As mentioned by Dilly, the 'rjmamula' character had us all a little bit suspicious, and I didn't want the same to happen to you! I sincerely hope you find the information you're looking for, and I'm sorry we started off on the wrong foot. ~Eric

this is what I am looking for. These are the type of photo's I like to collect. Nothing sinister about it. Just beautiful rail photo's. I read the other thread that you have mentioned and yes I can understand why that thread would be suspicious since derailing was mentioned. I assure you only my camera is with me when I visit the rails. Perhaps the most mischif I get into is walking on railroad property but I don't stay long. Just long enough to get a few pictures.

No. 1:Eric, did you make ANY effort to answer the man's question?
No.2: WHY DON'T WE PUT SOMETHING IN THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT REGARDING THIS SORT OF ISSUE SO WE CAN STOP WASTING VALUABLE SPACE REMINDING OURSELVES ABOUT IT?
I would love any and all replies to be e-mailed to me, seeing as I am no longer bothering with this immature group.
And yes, I know it is a valid concern, I remember rjwhatthefuck...but this is stupid.
By the way, Gerry, I like the pics!...hope you find more locations like those!! [This message has been edited by Cthetrains (edited 02-03-2003).]

Cthetrains: Read this if you want... Since I don't feel like arguing this subject anymore, and since we don't seem to be getting anywhere anyway, let me just say: I APOLOGIZE. Yes, I shouldn't have made such a big deal about the original topic. I am happy to admit that! I realize now that it was a perfectly reasonable question to ask [about the switches]. If I have offended you in any way, it was completely unintentional. I would love to end this argument with a hand shake, but obviously that's not possible, so I hope my written apology is enough. Please accept it, and we can move on. Thank you, Eric

You might want to try Hoboken Terminal in Hoboken, NJ. LOTS of switches there and nice views of the yard with NJ Transit equipment always stored there. You could walk down to the end of any platform to get a good view of the yard.

No need for apoligies. I figure when looking for advice and guidance about:trains, tracks and switches where is a better place to go then to a railroad forum. I thank transit383 for his help. Actually what I am most interested in our these. http://www.raildepot.com/CSX7749.htm Posted by Cthetrains (Member # 2148) on :
